Hathaway Restaurant Dempsey

Hathaway Restaurant is a lovely place at Dempsey that takes a creative spin on Asian cuisine. I enjoyed their Exquisite Asian dishes so much! Their menu features a variety of local culinary heritage such as Indian, Malay and Peranakan cuisine interlaced with French and Middle Eastern influence. It is a relatively new restaurant, brought to you by Breadyard.

Hathaway in old English means someone who lives by a path across a heath, which in some way describes their location here at Dempsey. Their menu seeks to capture the context of our time and place through the lens of modern Asian cuisine. Their interior is absolutely stunning and has distinctive wood elements/rattan furniture. Every spot is definitely pinterest-worthy!

Grilled Bone Marrow: This is my favourite dish and it's amazing. It is so soft and tender - the fats melt in my mouth so easily. Love that it is packed with flavors and the strong taste of Kicap Manis isn't too prominent.

Fish Curry Barramundi with Crispy Okra: It's quite spicy for me, so I paired a small portion of the sauce with the meat. The Barramundi is so fresh and goes well with the crunchy Okra.

Coconut Basmati Rice: Soft and fluffy rice with freshly grated coconut. I couldn't help eating this on its own, as it is so fragrant and light on the palette.

Octopus Bakar & Sambal Udang: This is my second favourite dish! I simply couldn't resist grilled seafood that is so tender. There's huge king prawns and juicy octopus legs (Western Australian Octopus) that are well-charred with a smoky flavour. The bed of polenta was quite interesting and has a muted taste, in contrast to the flavorful seafood.

Don't skip on their drinks and desserts! Their non-alcoholic drinks are so delicious and refreshing. As they take immense inspiration from the Malay community, they do not to serve pork or alcohol.

Tapache: House fermented pineapple, Warner's Juniper Dry Gin 0% and Rooibos Tea Infusion. This is my favourite as it is packed with refreshing citrus flavors.

Melati: Far East Botanicals, Warner's Juniper Dry Gin 0% and Rooibos Tea Infusion.

Barley dessert: It's a refreshing sorbet served with crunchy fried barley and passionfruit. It's pretty similar to a Barley slushie, but with varying texture in an exquisite format

Harum Manis: A combination of Pisang Goreng, Banana Caramel and Banana ice cream. This is for Banana lovers like me. The ice cream is rich in Banana flavor, but I find it a tad too sweet. Love the components of the dessert where you can have something crunchy, savory and enjoy a fluffy texture as well.
