Japanese Claypot Rice should be something new for most of us! I am so used to Chinese Claypot Rice and I am pleasantly surprised at how delicious the flavorful rice from Donabe was! The sauce by the accompanying ingredients are absorbed by the rice so well.
Donabe at Paya Lebar Quarter uses Japanese Nigata rice that’s cooked in premium dashi. I am so glad that I got to try Kinoko as it’s filled with sweet onions, buttery mushrooms and onsen egg!
Kinoko: good option for Vegetarians! There’s oriental mushroom, mushroom floss mixed with crispy seasoned seaweed, and Onsen egg.
Glad to see pork jowl as I love how fatty the cut is. You can try Iberiko Buta that has grilled Iberico pork jowl, smoked sausage tare and crispy pork with Unami sauce
For Oyster lovers, you can try Kaki. There’s sous-vide Hiroshima Oyster, pacific clams, dried shrimp roe and shio komba.
There’s different appetisers daily and there’s healthy cabbage salad too. We tried Crispy Mackerel Fish with spicy sesame sauce for the sides. The portion is generous!
Don’t forget to try their ice cream. I enjoyed their homemade Hojicha ice cream so much as the roasted tea scent and the saltiness is so satisfying. There’s Yuzu sorbet too.
