Xin Yuan Ji is opened by the founder of Xin Yuan Ji Fish Head Steamboat 新源记鱼头炉. I love how there are both Tze-Char dishes and Fish Head Steamboat at their Bukit Batok location.
Fish Head hotpot is one of my favourite dishes as it is so nutritious and filling. I love the chunky and generous portion of fish. Glad to share that I don’t feel thirsty after drinking the soup (it is simmered for sometime to bring out the hearty flavors).This is definitely great for sharing! The soup is thoughtfully prepared with fresh fish and premium broth.
We got butter prawns, as we wanted a change from the usual salted egg style. The prawns are fresh and big! The buttery sauce is slightly sweet and goes well with rice. I love to order tofu when I have Tze Char. Their Cai Po tofu is deep fried to perfection, love the silky and smooth custard texture on the inside. The generous portion of Cai Po goes so well with rice.
Don’t forget their curry fish head because the flavors of the gravy is really outstanding. I love the how the cabbage, eggplant and fish head had soaked up the curry sauce so well. To make the meal healthier, we got broccoli with scallops as well.
Glad to know that they have new outlets at Hougang and Bukit Batok! The menu at each outlet is different. Bukit Batok outlet has a greater variety of dishes from Tze Char, Fish head steamboat and Curry Fish Head. The Hougang outlet has wanton mee!
